What Is Spider Vein & Spot Treatment?

Spider veins, broken capillaries, and pigmented spots are among the most common skin concerns — and among the most treatable. At Afterglow, we use the Aerolase Neo Elite laser to precisely target and eliminate unwanted vascular and pigmented lesions with minimal discomfort and no downtime.

How It Works

The Aerolase Neo Elite delivers targeted laser energy that is selectively absorbed by the pigment in blood vessels and spots, heating and collapsing them without affecting the surrounding skin. Vascular lesions gradually fade and are reabsorbed by the body. Pigmented spots darken briefly then flake away, revealing clearer skin underneath.

What Can Be Treated?

  • Spider veins on the face and legs
  • Broken capillaries and facial redness
  • Cherry angiomas (red spots)
  • Age spots and sunspots
  • Flat pigmented lesions
  • Port wine stains and birthmarks (case by case)

What to Expect

During Treatment

Sessions are quick – often 15-30 minutes depending on the number and size of lesions. You may feel a mild snapping or warming sensation at each pulse. Most patients find it very tolerable.

After Treatment

Treated vessels may appear darker or slightly raised for 1–2 weeks before fading. Spots will darken and flake off within 1–2 weeks. Sun protection is essential following treatment.

How Many Sessions?

Many lesions respond significantly in 1–2 sessions. Larger or deeper lesions may require 3–4 sessions. Your provider will give you a realistic timeline during your consultation.
have a question?

Quick answers to questions you may have

Can spider veins come back?
Treated vessels are permanently eliminated. However, new ones can develop over time due to sun exposure, genetics, or hormonal changes. Ongoing sun protection and periodic maintenance help prevent recurrence.
Is this safe for all skin tones?
The Aerolase Neo Elite is one of the safest options for vascular and pigment treatments across a range of skin tones. Your provider will assess your skin type and select the appropriate settings.

SAFETY

Safety information

Read this before your treatment, and tell your provider about any condition or medicine it mentions.

Contact us if you notice blistering, oozing, spreading redness or signs of infection after a treatment.

Who should not have it

  • Pregnancy, an active skin infection, or certain medications: the AAD says skin-tightening procedures aren't right in these cases, and some medicines make skin more sensitive to laser light.
  • A recent tan or sunless tanner: skip both before treatment.
  • Tell your provider first if you scar easily, have ever had a keloid, get cold sores or genital herpes, have taken isotretinoin, or take any medicine, including aspirin.
  • Breastfeeding, as well as pregnancy: studies of this laser leave out both.
  • Lupus or another condition that makes skin sensitive to light, or a medicine that does: a hospital trial of the Neo Elite lists these as reasons not to treat.
  • Sunburn in the area to be treated.
  • Tell your provider first if you have epilepsy: studies of this kind of laser leave it out.

Common side effects

  • Redness, swelling and discomfort, usually gone in 1 to 3 days.
  • Occasional bruising for a few days.
  • During a course of acne treatment, acne can flare for a while and skin can feel dry. These were the most common effects in a 225-patient study of the Neo Elite.
  • On psoriasis patches, crusting, sometimes with small spots of blood.
  • After the Era Elite, a resurfacing laser: redness for a few days to a week while the skin heals.

Serious risks

  • Blistering and burns.
  • Cold sore outbreaks and infection.
  • Lightening or darkening of the skin, and scarring, which can be permanent. Darker skin is more prone to burns and dark marks.
