A “double chin” is a common concern for both men and women. The fat under the chin can be especially stubborn, often resistant to traditional methods like dieting and exercise.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is an injectable treatment designed to reduce fat under the chin. It works by using deoxycholic acid, a substance that destroys fat cells, allowing the body to naturally process and eliminate them. Most patients require multiple sessions to achieve optimal results, with the exact number of injections and sessions varying depending on individual anatomy and fat reduction goals.

Am I a Good Candidate for Kybella?

Ideal candidates for Kybella are in good health, at or near their target weight, and committed to maintaining a balanced diet and active lifestyle. Those with good skin elasticity and mild to moderate amounts of excess fat under the chin are likely to see the best results. However, Kybella does not address loose or sagging skin, so patients with skin laxity concerns may benefit more from other treatments.

How Kybella Works

Kybella’s active ingredient, deoxycholic acid, targets and destroys fat cells in the treated area. During a consultation, our team will evaluate your chin and neck to determine the most effective approach. If Kybella is a good fit, you’ll be scheduled for an in-office injection session that typically lasts around 15 minutes. Topical numbing cream is available if desired, adding 45-60 minutes to the appointment for full effect.
After identifying and marking the injection sites, the area is sterilized, and Kybella is injected directly into the fat. Patients may feel a brief stinging sensation; however, ice packs and optional numbing cream help minimize discomfort. Post-treatment care usually involves wearing a compression garment, applying ice packs, and avoiding intense physical activities for several days.

Quick answers to questions you may have

Recovery and Aftercare
Following Kybella, mild swelling, bruising, and tenderness are common and usually resolve within 7-14 days. Compression garments and cooling can help manage these side effects. Avoid heat exposure (saunas, hot tubs) and vigorous exercise for the first few days after treatment. Our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth and quick recovery.
When Will I See Results?
Patience is key with Kybella, as it takes several weeks for the body to process and remove the damaged fat cells. Multiple sessions, typically spaced 4-6 weeks apart, are often needed to achieve noticeable results. Many patients see improvement after 2-4 sessions.
How Long Do Kybella Results Last?
Kybella offers a permanent reduction of fat cells in the treated area, as the body does not regenerate these cells. However, maintaining a stable weight is important, as remaining fat cells can expand with weight gain, potentially impacting the results.
Is Kybella the Right Treatment for Me?

The effectiveness of Kybella depends on factors such as the size and shape of the chin, skin elasticity, and the volume of fatty tissue. Common causes of excess fat under the chin include aging, genetics, and weight gain. For those with moderate to mild fat under the chin, Kybella is an excellent option, while patients with more significant amounts of fat may achieve better results with neck liposuction.

Additional treatments like dermal fillers, thread lifting, and neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, or Xeomin) can also help enhance the jawline by adding volume, lifting tissue, or reducing neck bands.

How Much Does Kybella Cost?
The cost of Kybella depends on the number of vials needed and the number of sessions required. Pricing details will be reviewed with you during your consultation to ensure you understand the full cost of your treatment.
Is Kybella Right for You?
Kybella offers a non-surgical, long-lasting solution for submental fat reduction, helping patients achieve a more defined chin and neck contour. Contact our office to schedule a consultation and learn if Kybella is the right option for you to say goodbye to a double chin.
